Reflections of the History of India: A Dance Production for Charity

We invite you to be part of Darpana: Ek Itihaas — literally, “a reflection of history.” On Saturday, August 15, 2026, India’s Independence Day, the Nartan Academy of Dance Kansas City will present a landmark classical production at the Lied Center of Kansas in Lawrence. Over one hundred current and former students will trace the journey of India — from her ancient civilizations to the dawn of independence, accompanied by a live ensemble of distinguished artists from India.

In the spirit of classical dance — which has always been an offering rather than a performance — a meaningful portion of every dollar raised through this production will be directed to SafeHome, a charitable organization within our Greater Kansas City community. Every step on stage will help lift someone in need, and your attendance and contribution therefore supports two missions at once: the preservation of an ancient art form, and service towards our community in Kansas City.

Bharatanatyam teaches that the dancer, the dance, and the audience together complete the offering. We hope you will choose to stand with us as we hold up this mirror to history — and, in doing so, light a small lamp for those in our community who need it most.
